5 Steps to STOP Anticipation of Stuttering

If you’re anything like the past version of myself and many other people who stutter, you’ve perhaps had interactions with people you’re comfortable with, and it seems like the stuttering melts away – even if only for a short time.

But why does this happen? Why can you suddenly speak fluently in one situation, but not in the next?

While it’s impossible to get a complete answer since it’s a very individual thing; there is one quality that is usually NOT ACTIVE when you find yourself speaking well. That quality is anticipation.

Anticipation is what drives so much of the habit of stuttering. When you anticipate upcoming situations and words, and you play these scenarios in your head of feeling embarrassed – that absolutely affects how well you speak.
